I know that soybeans have many culinary uses and is the eco-worrier in the fight for sustainable ink, but never did I image the little beans could come together to make pieces of fabric that will adorn/shelter the little bodies of our young ones. But the can and they already do!
Now maybe I’m a little slow on the fiber news front, because I did some research and found out that soybean fiber is hardly a new discovery/invention. It is as a matter of fact, invented way back in 1937 by Henry ford and was termed as soy “Wool’. He had made a suite, necktie and car upholstery from the soybean fiber. Up until the 1960, it was manufactured in Poland.
In 1998, the new soybean fiber was invented and was promoted in 2000 (sad isn’t it how I only came to learn of it this year). Like bamboo fibre, soybean protein fiber is unique and has qualities of superiority over the other conventional fibers:
- Cashmere feel -soft, smooth, light yet smoother than actual cashmere.
- Dry comfort – moisture absorption of soybean protein fiber is similar to that of bamboo fiber, because its ventilation is more superior to that of cotton fiber.
- Luxuriant appearance- the fabric has a silky lustre with features of perfect drape and elegance ;
- Superior colour fastness – colour is fresh and lustrous with active dyes and stable in sunshine and perspiration.
- Anti-ultraviolet that is superior to cotton fiber, and even more superior than viscose and silk.
- Excellent mechanical property as the breaking strength of the single soybean protein fibre is over 3.0cNdtex. That’s higher than that of wool, cotton and silk! Only polyester fibre of high intension is stronger than it.
- Amino acid function – Soybean protein fibre contains many amino acids necessary to human’s body, so it has exceptional function of health which includes the activation of collagen protein in the skin, resist tickling and evaporate the skin.
Now if you have a new born baby, you might want to visit BabySoyUsa because it is pioneering company behind baby’s clothes made from soybean protein fibre. In fact it is proudly known as the 1st company in the world to create a baby’s newborn wardrobe from such fiber (soybean protein fiber). Babysoy features modern baby layettes made conscientious and green by the use of renewable natural resources as the raw material (leftover pulp from tofu, soymilk and other soy products).
Another miracle of nature which just proves size doesn’t matter!
