I don’t think it takes a scientist to figure out that nail polish are toxic. The fumes you get from them are enough of a tell tale sign.
So indirectly what does that spell for us eco-girls? Could it be a life doomed without hope of indulgence into the pampering world of manicures and pedicures? Of course not, don’t be silly.
You see it is the chemicals within those lovely coloured bottles of nail polish that make them so toxic and non-eco friendly to begin with. So you just have to find a brand that has managed to manufacture a range of nail colours and products that eliminates the use of them and you’re free to indulge!
Now at this point, I’m not sure if there are any other brands besides Acquarella Polish and SunCoats that I can safely state has come up with a real safe, non-toxic, water-based alternative to the conventional nail products so please correct me if I am wrong.
The chemicals that we need to be aware of when it comes to nail polish are mainly formaldehyde, phthalates, toluene or petrochemical solvents. Acquarella Polish and SunCoats has somehow manage to design a water-based formula creating beautiful nail colours, nail moisturizer, nail conditioner and nail polish remover that is completely biodegradable, vegan (Acquarella colours are 100% vegan, while only some of the SunCoats colours are vegan)), practically odorless and non toxic!
The products seem similar to conventional ones save for the fact that they are eco-friendly. The nail polish can be used without a base or top coat and will dry to the touch within 3 minutes (to use in 20 minutes- but what’s that when you think of how green it is!).
Acquarella Water Colour Nail Polish comes in a variety of shades that vary from creme (solid opaque) to translucent and metallic to shimmer. If I’m not wrong they presently have 22 colours to choose from and my favourite is French Vanilla (I’m a lover of a natural looking tone).
SunCoats on the other hand has 32 shades to pick from. Their water-based nail polish has been recognized and honoured at the Canadian Health Food Association Expo. Having won the Silver medals of Alive Awards of Excellence in 2004 and 2005, I’m pretty certain when the say their product is green, they know what they are talking about and they meant every word of it.
