Ah what can we say about soft beautiful curls in a woman’s hair besides the fact that it is absolutely stunning and give this air of radiant elegance. So much so that at a point in time of each young lady’s life, she would have wanted curls of her own. But sadly life doesn’t work out quite the way we would all like it to so it’s straight hair for some, undefined waves for others and annoying knotted curls for those ‘with’ natural curls.
But we women are a resilient lot, especially when it comes to things related to beauty so if we want those model curls, then by jeeves we will have those luscious curls…
Well easier said than done because we have to submit ourselves to a few tortures:
Choice No 1: Permanent Curls
Vanity Perk: Permanent curls what else!
Vanity set-back: Sitting for hours in a chair and the expensive maintenance
Green problem: Toxic chemicals that soak into your hair to break the natural structure of your hair to allow for curls to take form and the toxic chemicals that you need to continue to apply to hair to keep the curls.
Choice No 2: Non permanent Curls – Curling Iron
Vanity Perk: Lovely curls that can be modified to your liking
Vanity Set-Back: The occasional scalding from touching the hot iron, fried ends and time constrain.
Green Problem: Electricity usage, possibly the use of some toxic chemical to protect the hair from heat damage.
Choice No 3: Non permanent Curls – Curlers
Vanity Perk: Bouncy curls that can be modified to your liking
Vanity set-Back: Can be quite a pain to set, very time consuming, horrid to sleep on if curlers used are hard
Green Problem: Well if you use plastic curlers or foam curlers then you’ve got carbon sins to account for. Although you could counter this problem by using paper bag strips or Conair Bamboo Soft Curlers…
Choice No 4: Non permanent Curls – Pins
Vanity Perk: You get really tight curls, wonderful for shorter hairstyles
Vanity set-back: Have you tried leaning back against a pillow with a head full of hair pins? And the aching arms!
Green Problem: Honestly when compared against all other methods (save for the eco friendly curlers) bobby pins are the safest for both you and the environment. Well of course you need to consider the carbon prints it takes to make the pins and the fact that because these little pins are so small and cheap, people don’t really take good care of them, tossing them out or losing them all the time which makes for higher ‘consumption’ if you will of these little pins and hence the carbon footprints involved in making them.
