Time for your weekly Sustainable Product Roundup! I
see tons of new eco-friendly goodies that we’re getting in stock at the store
for the holidays (it’s almost 2009… this year has absolutely flown by!) and I’m
so excited to give ‘em a try.
Sexy
Hair Organics
I’m a big fan of Sexy Hair products;
their root lifter
allows for the most outrageous, Amy Winehouse-esque volume that haunts your
dreams (I know all about it!). Their Chocolate Soy Milk shampoo isn’t
safe around me though, just because it smells exactly like hot cocoa!
Despite my knowing that it’s a cleansing product, I would probably try to
drink it anyway. Their Pumpkin
Shampoo is also incredible if you want gorgeous hair that smells like a
delicious pie.
The
newest addition to the Sexy Hair family is their Organics collection. This
ultra mild line of shampoo, conditioners and styling products is all made from
at least 63% organic ingredients, and everything is sulfate-, paraben-, and
petrochemical-free. They smell great too; fresh, clean, and not like patchouli. Check out Sexy Hair’s website for locations on where to buy.
Pur Minerals
Um, alright: I’m pimping my favorite sustainable product of all time. There are
two major players in the mineral makeup game: Bare Escentuals and Pur Minerals.
They’re like rival gangs, each side’s members willing to take a bullet for the
team (or not). And guess what–I’m hardcore Pur. I’ve got “PurM iner”
tattooed on my knuckles… just kidding.
But seriously, look no further; this really is the last mineral foundation
you’ll need to try. It’s a pressed, all-natural powder with incredible
coverage, maximum staying power and all-around goodness. Their shades are easy
to figure out (85% of the women I put this on are Golden Medium. Chances are you
are too) and one shade covers the range of what your skin may turn within an
entire year. I, too, wear Golden Medium, and that baby takes me from the dead
of winter to blindingly sunny summers (granted, I slather on the SPF and deliberately stay out of the sun… but I do get a bit of color). It’s non-drying because of the shea butter binder, formulated for sensitive skin and won’t aggravate and existing skin issues. That starter kit up there comes with a mini foundation, a mini bronzer, a mini blush and a full-size brush (incredible quality, will last you forever) for a measly 35 buckaroos. Available at Ulta stores.

Plant Love by Cargo
Cargo, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Plant Love has been around for a while, but I need two seconds to gush. I used to not wear lipstick; I was a gloss girl, born and raised. Enter Plant Love Botanical Lipstick. Killarney, a sheer, shimmery neutral peachy pink, was the first tube of lipstick I wore down to the nub, then used a lip brush to dig out the rest of. The colors are to die for, the consistency is smooth, sheer (depending on the color you get), so moisturizing, so lovely! The tube is made out of corn (somehow, those sly, innovative minxes) and the box it comes in is made from flower paper. If you plant it, it will grow! $20 at Sephora
