Washing hair with Spring Water

Life is full of mysteries and you never know what you’re going to discover at the next bend. Well personally I got the opportunity to make a chance discovery. And this one’s got everything to do with having delightfully impossible soft, manageable and perfect coloured hair! I haven’t got the ‘mixture’ all figured out but I’ve got a good enough idea and result from experiment to share it with the lot of you here.

Now for a little background as to the discovery:

A recent temporary posting/assignment to a town within the vicinity of the French Alps gave me the opportunity to not only drink fresh French spring water drawn straight from the Alps but bath with it too. So what’s would be surprising about the fact that I’m going to say the water has wondrous effect on health and skin beauty? Absolutely nothing, else why would you find it being bottled and sold for a King’s Ransom worldwide?

No, instead what I discovered (might not be the first but does it matter?) was the effect it had on the texture of my hair and the colour of it.
My hair is naturally wavy with the occasional large curls and I say occasional because my beloved locks have a mind of its own and can be quite the cruel tease on bad days – ie. Unmanageable frizz!! And usually in summer months everyday is just another horror waiting to happen.

But amazingly when I came over here my hair was soft and neatly wavy. It had nothing to do with any products (shampoo, conditioner, oil) I was using because I made no changes to them. In fact the first week I was here I was alarmed because while I loved the texture, my hair which was normally a neat dark chestnut brown had turned red. I wasn’t fire engine red but it was plain to see the colour was now with obvious tinges of red. In desperation I considered buying a bottle of hair colour (forget that they didn’t have my usual organic brand) and had set the plan for the coming weekend. But just as Saturday rolled along and I came this close to sealing the deal at Carrefour, I realized the red was gone and in place my hair was now a very natural soft brown, perhaps 2 shades lighter than what I had. It was/is lovely so I dropped the dye bottle and kept it as it is.

So here’s my advice to you girls out there. If you’ve got coloured hair, mind that it isn’t just salt and chlorine that will affect your hair colour. I’m not sure how exactly the minerals in Alp Spring Water works to change the colour – whether it lightens or darkens but I can guarantee that it does. And on top of that it really makes the hair soft and frizz free.

Now I just need to find out how the water back home will affect my new ‘hair colour’. Will update on this when I get back and experiment.
