What to Wear in the Garden (Once You’re Done Weeding)

August 1st, 2008 BY Annie | 1 Comment

I’m not going to fight it. I’ve been writing about all things garden for the whole week, so I might as well go out strong. But it’s the weekend now. There is life, lots of luscious life, beyond the dirt patch in your backyard (or containers on your windowsill, or pots on your patio, as the case may be).
Once you’ve finished the actual work (shudder) of gardening, get garden-pretty.

  • If you’re going to stay casual, throw on your favorite pair of jeans and these shoes by Simple footwear. There’s also a sneaker version, if you prefer laces. Throw on this organic cotton Flamingo tee, or this very flattering cami, and you’re set.
  • If jeans are too hot for you, or you’re too hot for jeans, cool down in one of these sundresses, all eco-friendly options. It’s nice to look good in a sustainable way, ain’t it? Lilikoi Clothing has a nice selection, in organic cotton and organic cotton jersey, from sit-around-with-a-lemonade style to going-out-for-a-stroll style. For slightly more hippie threads, check out Soul-Flower’s line. They look incredibly comfortable, cool, and hippie-styling with spaghetti straps and Indian prints.
  • For indie style in green, check out BirdFight. Not everything featured is green, though, so pay attention. These picks are nice: the Soho stroll dress, and Passenger Pigeon’s Sparrow Skirt.
  • For even more green clothing fun, check out the Style Saves the World blog. It covers a lot more than clothing – all things that can be categorized as “style” meets “green” – but for clothing picks, check out this post on Beau Soleil summer dresses (on sale!) and this one on the eco-friendly flip-flop, which is, of course, the ultimate summer shoe and comes in enough styles to go with your jeans or your sundress. Or your swimsuit… Which reminds me…
  • You need a swimsuit! Go here for a little breakdown of White Apricot’s Top Eco Friendly Swimwear Designers. If you don’t find one you like there, then click on over to FairiesDance or Evo for more options.

Wow, I knew they made organic cotton clothing, but I didn’t even know they made swimwear! Its all so pretty, too! I’ve always associated eco-friendly clothing with not looking cool, but its totally not the case! Thanks for sharing!
