The Onion Layers of Winter

I know that winter isn’t quite everyone’s favourite season. Only those who experience it ‘seasonally’ as in they don’t have to ensure the whole 3 months of having the shortest days and the lowest average temperatures but only for the week when they go home for the holidays will see the lighter side of the blistering cold weather. Those who have to endure it day in day out consecutively for the whole 3 months will only see the bother –freezing cold, the winter sludge, the inconvenience of having to bundle up like a fat ball each time you go out…

But when I think of the bright side to winter, it’s really all about the clothes. Winter is really the only season where you get to dress up in layers of wooley clothing in array of colours and be forgiven for it – literally dress up like a colourful onion! But the fact is it’s not always about fashion; it’s also about the practicality of protecting from ourselves from the cold, a thought that must never be overlooked when it comes to dressing children for the winter.

So if you are looking for eco friendly winter assebles for kids then maybe the following will offer you some options:

Absolutely adorable and absolutely eco friendly, this little crocheted baby bear ear hat by Amy Mohlenhoff made with 100% organic cotton will melt your heart and the blistering cold from your baby.

Available in 2 beatiful colours (teal for girls and nightshadow blue for boys), this is a lovely organic coat made from luxurious organic plush fleece on the inside, and organic soft cord on the outside. A layer of recycled polyester wadding is inserted internally for extra snuggliness and warmth and you will love it more when I tell you that this coat is made in India with 100% certified organic & fair trade cotton and the clothing ships in an innovative fully compostable non-genetically modified potato starch protective bag.

An absolutely darling sweater made from 100% fair trade organic alpaca wool, the Oeuf Angel Sweater will keep you little one warm and fashionable. Handmade by the women folk of Bolivia, the making of the Oeuf Sweater works to provides them with a sustainable flow of income that their children can attend school.

Well it’s obvious this isn’t something you’d expect to protect your baby from the cold (on its own). You will need to pile on more onion layers over it but it is a very beautiful one-piece that you won’t want to miss out on. Made in the USA using 100% certified organic cotton and water-based inks, this lovely one-piece with its purple poppy prints is magnificent.

One of my personal favourites when it comes to clothing is big collars. There’s just something about them that makes even the plainest of outfits elegant. This is why I think the Oeuf Neckie is a must have! It doesn’t quite look like a necktie, and it seems to look both like a scarf and an ascot…made under fair trade conditions by the women folk of Bolivia with 100% organic alpaca wool it will keep your baby’s neck all warm without the fear of irritations that you will have with synthetic fibres.
