In the era that we live in, we want everything in green. We want our house to be green, we’d like for our clothes to be green and above all we insist our food be green. But you know as ambitious as most of the green demands are, you’ll find that some of them are actually quite common, reasonable and downright feasible, especially when it comes to the food.
Let’s focus on a popular favourite – cheese! Now you’ve heard the term ‘green cheese’, often enough you would hear that it used in a sentence like “The moon is made of green cheese’ but the fact is green cheese is just as real as blue cheese and you don’t even have to go to the moon to get it. Feel free to correct me if I’ve mistaken but to the best of my knowledge, green cheese may refer to the variety of cheese that is green in colour or simply young cheese. The term does not specifically refer to ‘organic’ or ‘eco-friendly’ cheese, although these are obviously available on the market today.
So that’s the end of what I can safely tell you about green cheese.
However, the true green connoisseur of fromage will tell you that it isn’t just the quality of the cheese itself that makes the experience delectable, instead it is also everything about the cheese etiquette!
What am I rambling on about?
Well unless you’re talking about those slices of processed cheese, you obviously will obviously be serving your guests cheese on a cheese board. Traditionally the cheeseboard is served towards the end of the meal or alternatively it may be served before or after dessert. They are often accompanied by the serving of wine such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot or other sweet dessert wines.
Everyone remembers that to create a green cheese and wine party experience, they get ‘eco-friendly cheese and wine’. However most tend to overlook the presentation/serving piece – the cheeseboard itself!
You can find quite a few options available but I think Glass cheese board made from recycled wine and spirit bottles are ideal. They are beautiful, they blend seamlessly into the cheese & wine theme and they can be innovatively used as serving dishes for other foods. In fact the ones sold at Eco Store comes with a quality cheese knife (the handle is made from locally sourced reclaimed wood) and packed in a lovely presentation box, on a bed of rustic woodwool!
The perfect complement to your green cheese and wine!
