I’m not a real fan of cakes and confectionaries but I do admire them for the creativity and skills that these chefs/bakers posses. I mean have you seen cakes these days? They aren’t just square or round sweet treats, they are miniature monuments! But the prettiest cakes have got to be cupcakes. You can do anything with those little wonders. I watched an episode of DC Cupcakes and was hooked from the beginning.

But if you’re not a cupcake fan because you feel it’s not the “real deal” then maybe we can sway your mind a bit – perhaps enough to even make you consider using cupcakes for your wedding and other milestone celebrations.

  1. The cost

Cupcakes will be cheaper than an elaborate wedding cake.

  1. The variety

You can have various flavours for your event without worries, unlike cakes where a different flavour simply means a whole new cake or a new tier of cake. It might not be easy to request for your wedding cake to be fully organic, low fat, etc because a baking a cake is chemistry and certain ingredients are vital to give it that look, texture and stand. Cupcakes are more versatile. Yes they are still cakes but they are tiny so it’s easier to maneuver the ingredients.

  1. The waste

Wedding cakes and other mile stone cakes are massive in size. And I guess it has to be in order to be “stunning” but face facts…how much of that cake goes to waste. Cupcakes you can order to suit headcount and the ability to have varieties to suit your guests taste buds will reduce wastage. And leftovers can be easily packed away and taken home.

  1. The miles

Elaborate wedding cakes are no easy feat, so chances are you’re not going to risk your big day’s center piece being a big disappointment by hiring just any bakery to do it. And it’s not as though we all live in New York so the best wedding bakers might not be in close vicinity. Transporting your cake miles is not very carbon friendly. Granted decorating cupcakes is not easy either but I’m surprised at how many of the most beautiful and delicious ones are oven baked at home as a side business by stay-at home moms. It’s probably pretty easy to find someone who you can commission to bake your wedding cupcakes then work closely with her to make sure each one turns out exactly as you want – perfect! You can’t quite stand around the kitchen of a commercial bakery.

  1. The cake set-up

Wedding cakes are elaborately tiered. And those structures are often help up plastic tubes and boards. With cupcakes it’s a little different. You have an array of ways to decorate and they an be placed on cupcake stands that are made from recycled boards.

So if you’re holding a wedding, why not give little cupcakes a thought to be the center piece of your big day.
