Ginger Tea

If you have allergies like I do, then you know how awful an attack leaves you feeling. While immediate medical attention would stop the flare up from killing or disabling you (really depends on how serious your reactions are) anyone who is an ‘experienced allergies sufferer’ will tell you that it’s the recovery period after that is absolute misery.

Depending on what kind of allergic reaction/episodes you are vulnerable to it could leave you with anything from a bout of runny congested nose to a sore throat to slow subsiding facial swellings with a heavy head or simply just raw skin from an itchy rash.

Now normally at this point, you’d be prescribed some medications to help alleviate those annoying ‘pains’. The usual aids like Antihistamines and antiseptic creams are given and they do work their magic, just that as with any other medication, you’d find that too much just isn’t going to do your body much good.

So what I am hinting at I hear you ask. Forget the medications and suffer it out? Well of course not. I’m not here to tell you what to do. I’m just here to share what I have found to work for me. And what works for me is a nice hot cut of homemade ginger tea! Yes, you read right, Ginger Tea, that’s all it takes for me to feel immensely better after one of those horrible episodes. (I know it’s not a new remedy, a timeless classic if anything but seriously, how many of us actually use it today?)

It’s really quite amazing how fast it clears up congestion and warms the chest all the way to the stomach. It even works when you’ve got a cold or when you need a little boost to pick up a sluggish appetite.

It’s really simple to make too, all you need is a piece of ginger (pounded), boiled with a cup of water for about 10-15 minutes on a low fire/heat and there you have it, instant relief! I take mine as it is because I need the gingery taste to clear my breathing passage but you can always add some natural unsweetened honey (or just honey) to level out the spiciness.

Old Mother Nature’s got all her special secret reliefs all packed up in her lovely garden, and I’ve always loved hers over modern medication. They always leave you feeling so fresh and renewed as opposed to modern medication’s sluggishness. But don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying get rid of all your pills, tablets, liquids etc…No, please don’t do that, even I still carry antihistamines around for ‘emergencies’.

I’m just saying trust your body and have some faith in Mother Nature…give your body a chance to sustain itself with a little help from nature.

Let life sustain life, and with that little bit of awareness of how nature can heal, maybe nature’s got more of a fighting chance of surviving too.

NOTE: Expressed above are my personal opinions based on my own experiences. Anyone who wishes to try the ‘Ginger Tea’ should do so with caution and at their own discretion because as with anything else, you could have a direct allergic reaction to the tea or it could react to any current medications or health conditions that you may have.
