Of teacups and saucers

You know some people have that bit of ‘perfectionist’ touch to them. Much like Bree Van De Kemp from the Desperate Housewives fame, they keep the perfect home decorated with fresh flowers and not a speck of dust in sight, host dinners that look as though they walked right out of the pages of a Betty Crocker’s Cookbook and have everything from dresses to plates that are each uniquely suited for their own special occasions. Oddities have no place in such homes unless it was intended as a set, so imagine what is to become of the perfect set of tea set should a saucer or a cup met with an accidental end or ended up a little chipped?

And so the set is retired, kept away in a cupboard, given to a new owner who wouldn’t mind a little chip or one cup less…well either way what a waste…

But the imaginative would see the end as a new beginning and try to breathe new life into those odd few teacups. How? Well these are the few ideas some have some up with:

1.    Bird Feeder
What once sat in your cupboard, could sit just as pretty in your garden romanticizing it further by inviting the presence/visit of beautiful birds to your garden. Caroline Adams has detailed instructions on how to put one together.

2.    Candle/tealight holder
Teacups and saucers are many a kind and all so dainty and pretty in their own way. If you have odd ones left then why not turn them into candle holders. They look very pretty with a flame dancing in them.

3.    Potpourri Cup
Teacups look romantic, and when you put those amazing scented potpourri in them, it’s just a match made in heaven.

4.    Decoupage door gift
If you have a wedding coming up and you’re fretting over door gifts, then might I suggest start collecting/saving old teacups from the toss and get some pretty paper designs and make a personalized decoupage teacups for your guests. They are lovely and absolutely one of a kind- the decoupage pattern could be your “wedding symbol”.
