Honey honey sweet apitherapy

October 26th, 2009 BY L.Angelina | No Comments

Do you ever have those days where you’re just such a careless bunny
that you bite into your lip by accident while chewing your food? They
start with a nasty sting then develop into horribly painful ulcers
right?

So what’s mother nature’s secret to healing mouth ulcers? Honey* of
course! Just take a dab of honey and apply to the ulcer and the nasty
little spot of sore will clear up before you know it!

Manuka Honey – this is the brand I use

Congratulations,
now you have just applied apitherapy. What’s that you ask? Well
apitherapy is the name given to treatments performed with natural honey
and you just treated your ulcer with natural honey. So you are now a
novice practitioner of apitherapy.

In my opinion it works faster than the common over the counter
medications, not to mention it’s healthy and taste absolutely gob
smackingly good! (yes, like Winnie the pooh, I’m honey person)

Of course there’s also the traditional method of using salt but
that’s a lot more painful and honey actually beats it in how fast it
heals.

Like salt, honey is a natural anti-bacterial so it works in pretty
much the same way. There are many many many uses for honey from first
aid for external wounds to ingestion as a supplement. I’ll reveal more
uses of honey that I have tried for myself in some upcoming posts.
Until then, forget the salt and go ahead and dab some honey on your
ulcer.

*I use Manuka honey which is a different kind of honey. It is
extracted from the Manuka tree that is indigenous to New Zealand and
parts of Australia. The name Manuka has Maori origins and is also known
as Tea Tree, but don’t be mistaken because there are 3 types of tea
tree and the Manuka Honey is obtained from the second one:

  1. The Australian Tea Tree is Melaleuca alternifolia
  2. The New Zealand Tea Tree is Leptospermum scoparium
  3. Kanuka is Kunzea ericoides

I’ll dedicate a separate post to Manuka honey because I think
there’s much to be said about it. So come back and look out for it.
