These days it is hard to find a job/activity that doesn’t lead us to the use of a visual aid unit (commonly computer screen or the infamous TV screen). That pretty much means we all end up with really really tired and dry eyes after the end of each day. We find ourselves heavily reliant on the use of rewetting agents (for those who wear contact lenses) and eye drops (for those without lenses) to give our poor eyes some form of comfort. But the problem is all the drops we are using are potent with chemicals that in the long run result in adverse health effects.
Now I stare at a computer screen for over 12 hours at a time each day – can’t do anything about, consider it an occupational hazard so to minimize the effect, I turn to natural remedies to help my eyes cope. There are 2 ways you can go about this, either it’s a do it yourself kitchen remedy for eye care of you go for herbal eye care in a bottle.
Kitchen remedy
Potato and cucumber
I know the use of potato and cucumber for the eyes is something that sounds very familiar. But the common misconception is that they are only used for dealing with puffy eyes or dark circles. The truth is, they have the ability to take the tension away from your strained eyes. Just place a slice of either on the eyes for 10-15 minutes and you can feel the soothing effects instantly. I like to chill the slices first before use but there’s no hard and fast rule.
Rose and raspberry leaves
I guess it’s not easy for everyone to source raspberry leaves so if you don’t have this in hand, it’s still fine because even just rose petals alone will be suffice. Take about 10 rose petals (organic/chemical free please) and soak them in a glass of water. If you have raspberry leaves then soak them together. Leave them to soak for a few hours (I leave it over night) then rinse your eyes with them. This is an amazingly effective treatment for tired sore eyes.
Herbal Eye Care in a bottle
If you’re not up to home concoctions, then at least try to use natural herbal remedies. There are many ayurvedic eye care drops available and they are much better for you than the conventional eye drops/lubricants. Tulsee is a brand you can look up if you don’t know where to start.
