Sleep is important, whether it is because we don’t want to end up with dark circles under our eyes or have issues with metabolism, the bottom line is, sleep is what keeps us -brain and body wise, functioning in tip top condition. Now I love my sleep and that’s no secret, but neither is the fact that I seem to be forever lack of it. Which is precisely why I take sleep to be serious business and ensure I make mine to be the most comfortable, luxurious (best of what I can afford anyways) and inviting experience it can possibly be.
For a good rest, I would recommend that you pay attention to the details of the following areas which I would deem dire to having a real rest:
- Good bed and pillows
- Great bedding (bamboo cotton is a fantastic choice)
- Comfortable temperature and lighting (for me it needs to be cool and pitch black)
- Relaxing/calming scents (rose is my favourite pick)
- Comfortable sleepwear (subject of the today’s article)
And if you are a green lover, then obviously you are looking to include the ‘sustainable’ criteria into your selections for each and every one of the categories above.
Now as most people would find sleepwear a negligible category, I’d like to focus on it today, hopefully changing the perception and giving you some handy suggestions.
You see sleepwear is more than just clothes. It’s your second skin during bedtime and it is going to set the mood for bed (sleepy mood that is) and preserve your comfort throughout the entire night. As with most things in life, not every that looks good is actually good and the same applies to sleepwear. The most beautiful or sexiest looking ones seem to never come equipped with comfort. And I would define comfort for a real night’s rest to be about:
- how the fabric feels on my skin,
- how it keeps the temperature of my body at a soothing one
- how it doesn’t constrict my breathing or movements
- how it doesn’t annoyingly ride up or wedge
Personally I love bamboo cotton and organic cotton pajamas, but some would add silk to the list (be mindful that if you are against animal cruelty, silk would not be your friend unless it’s Peace Silk*. Here are some suggestions for pajamas that should help give you a good night’s rest:

*Peace silk is animal friendly silk because the silkworm is not killed in the production of the silk. Instead it is allowed to complete its life cycle, where it burrows through its cocoon and breaks the silk fibers into smaller pieces. Thus, peace silk is weaved with shorter, non-continuous fibers.
