I think the first thing that comes to mind when someone says the word ‘ginkgo’ is probably health supplements from Ginkgo Biloba which is suppose aid with memory, work as a concentration enhancer as well as an anti-vertigo agent.
Now how just how well Ginkgo Biloba works for those conditions, I’m not certain because I haven’t tried it out for myself. I have however had ginkgo nut served as dessert and that’s delicious.
But back to the point, Gingko is a unique species of tree with no close living relatives. It’s a very beautiful plant with inspiring green fan-shaped leaves. I’ve read that individual trees can live up to 1,000 years!
Contrary to what you might think, the Gingko is not a small plant but instead a very large tree that can grow to a height of 20–35 m (66-115 feet)! They are also known as the Maidenhair Tree- and isn’t that a lovely name!
For a time the Ginkgo was thought to have been extinct in the wild, but researchers have found them to grow in at least two small areas in Zhejiang and the Tian Mu Shan Reserve of China. The Chinese monks have been credited for their survival.
As beautiful as these trees are, I believe that it is only natural that they become inspiration to the world. And I’m glad to say that many individuals and designers have taken to it.
As you all know, being in the midst of redecorating/remodelling a room, I’ve been pretty actively looking and flipping through books and magazines for inspirations. That’s really when I came across the following Ginkgo inspired works of art.
For bedding, I found an absolutely beautiful duvet set made of organic cotton and linen. It’s covered with embroidered ginkgo leaf patterns in subtle tan threads. The colours are natural and give such a luxurious inviting feel! Named the Kayla Duvet Set, this beautiful peaceful Japanese inspired bedding is available from Blissliving Home but it does cost quite a fair bit starting at $395.00 for a queen sized set, before reaching $435.00 for a king sized set.
For the decor, I found a Ginkgo Leaf Lamp from Viva Terra. Absolutely unique and eco-friendly because it’s made from recycled metal, set on a pedestal, the lamp’s leaf motif complements a natural woven shade. Absolutely gorgeous but again quite pricey at $375 a unit.
I’m absolutely in love with Ginkgo patterns right now…they are simply undeniably beautiful, don’t you agree?
