Make your own slime

Remember the days when the movie ‘Ghost Busters’ were the in thing? Those were the days when extoplastic slime consistently sat on Santa’s top 10 gifts kids want for Christmas list (if he kept such a ranking list that is). They first came in green, pink and blue then later it was every colour under the sun you could think of.  I was one of those kids and I loved the squishy feeling of cold goop in the palm of my hands…in fact through experience, I can tell you that the slime tasted salty!

But those days are gone because the Ghost Busters were a thing of the 80s and along with them went the craze for slime.

However, personally I find that slime is pretty cool for just being gooey but it’s super cool because it fits in a little jar in your bag and it keep children happily busy when you’re out at a restaurant waiting for the food to be served or you’re making a road trip. Busy children = less damage.

Now as I have already mentioned, as a kid, I tasted the slime I played with- no, I did not intentionally eat it, I just forgot to wash my hands after playtime. So clearly it’s obvious that kids are going to end up with some slime in their mouth whether they intentionally consume it or not. And because of that, as good parents you’d want to make sure whatever it is that they play with isn’t toxic and won’t turn them blue/green or whatever else colour.

You can always buy a can of slime but once you realize how easy it is to make slime and how much safer homemade slime is, you’re going to put away your wallets.
Did you realize that harmless slime is simply made of:

  • 1. Cornstarch
  • 2. Water
  • 3. Food Coloring

You can easily whip up a batch over the weekend and have your kids adore you for it. Just begin by mixing 1 part water to 1.5 to 2 parts cornstarch and adjust the mixture until you get the right consistency. Once that’s done, just separate the goo into manageable portions and work in some food coloring.
