Now correct me if wrong, but some people/children are very sensitive in the ears and rather find it a horror to have anything stuck into it, even if it is something as soft and slight as cotton. Well then what then would they think of ear candling?
Ear candling is part of alternative medicine. It’s got a really long history and many debatable versions of origin but that the one thing is certain about ear candling or thermal-auricular therapy is how it isn’t the alternative way to clean out the ear of ear wax.
Ear candling is an holistic treatment that is meant to calm the mind and promote well-being all through the soothing process of vibration and invigoration. For those familiar with spirituality, ear candling will also result in cleansed and balanced as well as the stimulated Kundalini.
But before you go sticking a candle in your ear, realise that ear candling doesn’t use ordinary candles – and no I’m not even referring to scented candles either. Instead what is used is a candle formed of cotton or linen that is wound into a cone like shape then soaked in wax and left to solidify. So what you end up with is a hollow candle.
I suppose those who practise ear candling can explain how it works far better than I can, but from what I know it is really the smoke that is vital in the process. Most ear candles you will find are made from paraffin wax but the healthier/greener alternatives are made from beeswax and soy wax.
If you are planning to give ear candling a go, take note to find a seasoned, qualified and reputable professional to do the job but also take extra care to the selection of the candle used. You should be prudent to realise that beeswax should be certified organic because whilst in theory they should be (made by bees) reality states otherwise. The abundant use of pesticides throughout the ages has gotten a hold on just about everything including the bees. It’s vital to select certified organic beeswax because it has been found that the pesticides are fat soluble. You really would want to inhale an entire stick of pesticide now would you?
Paraffin wax is a petroleum by-product, so it’s best to give it a miss. You’ll find that some ear candles are a mix of paraffin and beeswax simply because the latter is folds more expensive and harder to handle alone. If you can’t find 100% organic beeswax candles, then go for the ones that are a mix of beeswax with soy wax.
And another thing, don’t forget how conventional cotton is more of the largest contributors to pollution so make sure your ear candle is made from organic unbleached ones. Alternatively some are made from organic hemp.
