Hallowgreen Costume Suggestions

October 22nd, 2009 BY L.Angelina | No Comments

If you’ve got a Halloween Party to attend but you’re in a fret over what to go as this year, fret not because here today, Girlsustainable serves up to you our 4 suggestions for a really cool eco-minded Halloween Costume:

  • 1.    For the lady: The Earth Mother, Gaia

You could go dressed as globe but that would be boring. Instead why not think about 5 natural elements (earth, fire, wind, water, metal) that make up the earth and incorporate them into your outfit. It’s really up to your imagination what Gaia looks like but we would suggest, your base to be a long flowing cotton white dress pair with stunning long flaming red hair (wig or hair temporary hair dye it’s your pick). Weave some ‘natural’ elements such as flowers with bead pearls into your hair and top off with some sparkling glitter of gold, silver and blue, arranged in a beautiful design (perhaps artistic swirls mimicking that of nature) on your face and gown.

A name I believe that has now come to be lost to time, the Forest Father is a meaningful character to portray and bring to life once more this Halloween. To be rather frank, not enough people remember this great deity or the cause he stood firm for – uncultivated fields and forests, the protection of cattle and flocks. Silvanus in Latin means “living in a wood”. It isn’t very hard to dress up like Silvanus because he is often represented as a human figure – a cheerful aged man holding a shepherd’s pipe and carries a branch of a cypress tree.

A current character, so it’s likely one your child can relate to. Select from the characters of  Iridessa, Rosetta, Fawn,  Silvermist, Vidia, Terence and of course Tinkerbell. Beautiful, natural and colourful…perfect combination to representing a Hallowgreen character.

  • 4.    For the whimsical lovers: A flower fairy from Cicely Mary Barker’s book collection

To me one of the most beautiful illustrations brought to life, Cicely Mary Barker’s  World of Flower Fairies will leave you undecided on which fairy you want to be – you could always narrow down the scope of fairies by selecting your favourite colour or flower!

Happy Hallowgreen!
