It’s summer and one of the great hazards of this wonderful holiday season is the dreadful event of ‘sunburn’. The truth is I don’t quite see what the big deal is about baking under the sun. Personally I much prefer the translucent pale skin look that was very much alive during the Victorian days. Once upon a time, your status was amplified by the paleness of your skin because back then only the poor had to work and that meant going out under the sun. The aristocrats stayed away from the sun and avoided having swarthy skin or freckles. Oddly enough this ‘perception’ of beauty and class still exists very strongly in Asia but in the West, we seem to adore the skin colour that is toasted.
Often I find it hilarious when people say they love the ‘sun kissed’ look but the fact is what they adorn is the sun ravished/burnt look. And when you look past the physical traits of being baking under the sun, you’d realize you’re just asking for skin cancer and heat stroke – an ugly and painful early death if there ever was one.
Love the sun or loath it, you must realize that with global warming and the ozone layer depletion, the beautiful life sustaining rays of the suns are now packing an even deadlier killer punch of UV rays. Thus laying out there on the beach for 6 hours at a time is not going to do you any good.
Leathery orange burnt skin is quite hideous and I can’t for the life of me understand how that’s worth risking skin cancer for.
But as much as I prefer the pale look, some will always love a tan and they have every right to. But instead of going under the sun which may not hurt the environment but will kill you eventually, or going to a tanning salon and dousing yourself in orange chemicals you ought to consider getting an eco-tan.
And from looking around your best option for a healthy and environmentally responsible tan is in a tube/bottle from Green People. Green People’s Natural Self Tan Lotion is the 2009/10 Green Beauty Bible Winner and comes recommended by Beauty Director of Harpers Magazine! With the main ingredients being ORGANIC ROSEHIP, SANDALWOOD and GERANIUM, Green People’s Self Tan Lotion is the only of its kind one certified organic in the UK. Go here to read more about it.
Remember if you’re going to tan, do it safe and do it green.
