The fight for eco-sustainability and eco-friendliness has always been an uphill battle, surviving the general public’s destructive ignorance through the innovation and resourcefulness of our green warriors. Now throughout this battle for the good of the green, many ideas -some neat  like oyster shell recycling, some interesting like pensioners who live with bare minimum carbon footprints and some noble but questionable such as the sustainable sanitary pads have been introduced.

Yet I think what I’m about to introduce is by far one of the most interesting and ought to be celebrated eco efforts ever. Fellow readers readers of Girlsustainable, I hereby introduce to you POOPOOPAPER™! Doesn’t that name just make you have your eyes wide open to re-read that line again?

Well you didn’t read it wrong, it does read POOPOOPAPER™ and the products live up to the very name! POOPOOPAPER™ is a very special and unique kind of paper that is made from dried elephant dung.

Produced by The Great Elephant Poo Poo Paper Company Limited, POOPOOPAPER™ is a product lives “a truly creative sustainable cycle”.
In the company’s own words: POOPOOPAPER™ is “where raw materials with little other use are utilized to make a useful and functional product all the while providing jobs and opportunity along the way and ultimately selling our goods at a profit from which a portion is directed to a worthwhile cause: elephant welfare and conservation.”

And it all makes very simple sense if you just give it some thought. Elephants are vegetarians who eat lots of fibrous plants (grasses, bamboo & fruits) and since dietary fibre doesn’t digest, it just comes out in the dung. So when  The Great Elephant Poo Poo Paper Company Limited collects these naturally dried elephant dung pacts and washes them leaving only the fibres to be boiled clean, we’re basically left with pulp (see how it saves us form the deforestation, logging, debarking, chippering, chemical digesting processes). And when they add natural fibers from banana trees & pineapples to the mixture, then spread them over a mesh-bottomed tray that measures about 60cm by 90cm and sun dries them leaned up against a tree, we’re left with strong, thick and durable poo paper!

Well I don’t know about you but I’m completely sold to the product and the concept. This is truly one product that has gone a full sustainable round.
