Unless you’re actually in the modeling line, then it is likely that the only time you’ve ever come across the name or face of Nigel Barker is when you’re tuned into Tyra Banks’ popular series, “America’s Next Top Model” where he is a resident judge.
But frames and shots aside, Nigel Barker is also a humanitarian who puts his fame to use by drawing attention towards important causes that people tend to ignore. No I am not saying that Nigel Barker is an organic eco-centric, but instead merely a man in touch with his soul to recognize how we all should live responsibility and sustainably. Nigel Barker is the spokesperson for the Humane Society of the US and the Protect the Seals campaign.
Now before you go rolling your eyes saying this sounds more like an animal activist article than one on sustainable living, I say give me a chance to remind you what it’s all about. Each and every living creature big or small, gigantic or microscopic has a purpose and a role to play in nature. The senseless death of any race/family of animal just like a plant would cause destruction to the world through a domino effect. Nature in itself is very sensitive and a slight shift in the balance of things (population/temperature, etc) would make everything fall to pieces.
Commercial seal slaughter has stained the ice with crimson blood and it’s a horrific sight. And anyone who followed the campaign would have seen how the seal pups fought for their lives, especially one in particular that was caught on film – shot in the face, crawled in agony through his own blood, ultimately giving into death but motivated the nations to ban seal products and seafood distributors to boycott Canadian seafood.
Caring about the environment and all her creatures is sexy and Nigel Barker is living proof.
