I’m old schooled so yes I wear panty hoses and stockings daily to work. I do it because, one it’s part of proper dressing for a woman, two, it protects the insoles of my shoes giving them a longer last, three, they hide skin imperfections and four, they prevent this horrid embarrassing noise that happens when you’re the bare soles of your feet rub against rubbery insoles of sandals (new shoes effect). But I’ll be the first to admit that despite loving stockings and panty hoses, it frustrates me to the max how fragile they are.
A snag is all it takes to ruin an entire pair beyond repair… What I face with stockings and panty hoses is really not confined to me due my lack of grace, but rather to everyone who wears a pair. They are quite durable but if you wash them the wrong way, put them on with a bit too much force or jagged nails and you can kiss that lovely pair goodbye. Recognizing this great dilemma, geniuses came up with stockings in a can. Much like latex body suits, you’d whip out your trusty can of ‘perfect legs’ can spray it on. It’s a huge hit in Japan but honestly I’m not sure if I’d dare to use one. The thought of no more snags or slips and misalignments (if you wear patterned stockings, you’d know what I mean about this) is very very appealing, but then the thought of how my skin would react to it scares me a lot more.
Then there’s the issue of aerosol… Since the leggings come in a spray can, then clearly it must involve aerosol which is bad for the environment and our overall health. The real problem I have with ‘second skin layers’ from a can is how we usually end up inhaling some of it during the application process. I can only imagine after 6 months of spraying on my panty hoses, my lungs would be wearing a pair too on the inside. But fashion is fashion and I do applaud the inventors of spray on stockings. I dread that awful taste in my throat whenever I apply the spray on wound dressing so I can imagine it being no different with stockings mist.
Indeed they have made life for us women a lot easier, only I’m not sure by how much or if they’ve made it safer. There are more than one brand that currently offers spray on stockings and I found that Nycelegs stresses how its product is non-toxic! Does that mean all others that make no mention of toxicity is actually a cause for health concern? Makes you wonder doesn’t it…
