I can’t afford facial tissue – the printed ones

We all have things we wish we had/could afford. Some people want fast cars, others want sparkling stones well me…I want some pretty paper! If I were a billionaire and money wasn’t an issue, I suppose I’ll start investing in printed, scented facial tissues. And I’m not just talking about those with simple repeated flower prints but instead those with a full picture print of each ply! Really doesn’t matter that it’s going to be used to wipe sweat, snot, drool and other unpleasant things because I’ve got money to burn baby!

And now back to reality – because I’m not a billionaire I really couldn’t afford to waste the extra cash on pretty thin pieces of paper, especially not during the sniffles season in my house. And thus to make myself feel better about my ‘unfortunate’ position I shall now run through reasons why beautiful printed and deliciously scented facial tissues should be given a miss – obviously price shall not be given consider here because it’s a don’t feel bad for not having more green to burn article.

Reason 1: Allergies
Facial tissues are used on one of the most sensitive parts of our bodies – our skin. While many may have no issue with just about any kind of tissue on their skin, some of us aren’t as lucky. You’d realise that because companies like Kleenex and Scotties have hypoallergenic and dermatologist approved versions out on the market. So think about it, if plain tissues give you reactions, imagine what the additional colourings and paper texture (obviously if the facial tissue is going to hold prints there’s going to be a difference in texture/composition) would do to you.

Reason 2: Toxicity
I’m sure if they can put it on your tissue then the colours must be approved by the health authorities…but so is synthetic food dye and we all know they aren’t risk free. Furthermore you’ll be putting it on your skin and you should know that poisoning can happen through the skin as well!

Reason 3: Green Sin
Tissues like paper towels aren’t readily recyclable. Soiled/used ones are a form of bio-hazard.  To be eco-friendly we’re actually to cut down on our use of tissues and paper towels (save the trees!) so when we buy decorated tissues we’re just adding on to the harmful effect!

Reason 4: Guilt of waste
The tissues that I fell in love with are those with lovely teddies…so by not buying them I wouldn’t be guilty of blowing my nose into them! Yes, lame…but it’s true…I would feel it to be a great waste to dirty something so pretty.

Alright so now I feel better for being “less fortunate”, because I’ve just saved myself from more medical bills and green guilt! But those printed tissues…they are beautiful!
