Dressing up your daugther’s hair

A head full of thick luscious hair is every mother’s dream for her little girl. In fact brushing her hair, conditioning it and dressing it up in ribbons, plaites and curls are all a natural part of strengthening the bond between mother and daughter.

I’ll never forget how my mother did my hair for me every day, how we’d go shopping for ribbons and clips, how she’d learn up and try new hairstyles on my sister and I or how we could decide if we wanted our hair in a bun, a french plaite, etc and my mother would patiently and happily oblige. My mother is wonderful. She believed in dressing and prepping us for all occasions. We ‘are’ her living dolls.

I understand that these days, many working mothers just don’t have the time to ‘do’ their daughters hair into many and fancy hairstyles or perhaps it’s just today’s fashion for little girls to have their hair down. But regardless if you are lucky enough to have a daughter then do be sure to make it a point to go shopping with her for hair accessories- little girls all love that.

In fact it doesn’t always have to be about buying. If you have the time you could very well create another bonding session with your daughter by sitting down and making some of these accessories. We used to do it too and it was heaps of fun. We made little rose buds out of left-over ribbons and glued them onto plain hair clips or hair-bands. Mom even though us to crochet hair accessories and used left-over pieces of fabric to make colourful and unique hair scrungies- a fun, fashionable, green and bond tightening activity!

But if you haven’t got the time but you still want your daughter to have lovely things to put into her hair then perhaps consider the following shops to cater to your needs. They sell products that are eco-friendly, so it’s safe for the environment and safe for your child.

  • Artifire is shop you can visit for some choices. They have a lovely hair pin set that will look beautiful against your little girl’s hair that is made with faux pearls and recycled materials.
  • Pipitails has a wide range of fun, fresh and colourful accessories for you to pick from. Bottle Cap Clippy is they famous range of eco-friendly hair clips.
  • Dolls Of India boast some beautiful handmade hair clips made from jute.
