You and I both know that everything expires after a while. Classified as perishables or not, everything has a life span, some may last longer than others but ultimately it’s all got to retire and it’s got to go. But getting rid of old stuff isn’t always that simple is it? Some things just hold one too many memories and we become inseparable from them. But that’s not very good news for someone who’s very nostalgic and sentimental, because that just spells trouble with ‘clutter’ or even worse ‘hording’.
Now I don’t have all the answers but today I’m going to try to get you to part with some old clothes…
Sometimes with clothes, it isn’t about how it just can’t fit anymore, it’s about it getting worn out, making it improper for donation or being passed on. But you love it too much to see it used as rags and so there it lays in your cupboard without purpose.
Well now you can take them out, give them a new lease on life and feel great about keeping them – it’s not clutter and it isn’t waste, it’s been repurposed!
T-shirts are the easiest to begin with for this repurposing exercise. You’re going to turn your favourite t-shirts into practical yet uniquely green and beautiful scarves. All you need to do to is select a few old t-shirts (4 ought to be enough for a child’s scarf while you’d need about 5 -6 pieces for an adult’s length scraf). Just cut out parts of T-shirts into squares of 7 inches for kids and 8 inches for adults then it’s just a matter of using the sewing machine to put them together. Now a great thing about using t-shirts to make these scarves is the fabric which allows you to make frills at the end of them without worry that they will rip all the way upward.
As you get better at putting the fabric squares together, you can start using other apparels such as frill tops and silk which are a bit trickier. And if you haven’t a clue on how it is all going to turn out or what you can actually make materialize then visit Carol Schneider Designs who has got fantastic Reclaimed tee scarves and much more for sale.
But I think it’s more fun to make new memories with your old…so go ahead and try giving a new purpose to your old t-shirts and tops.
